Schools out! What now?

Many school leavers don't know where to start with a CV and beginning a job search can be a daunting prospect. "I have no experience so what do I write?" is the common question asked....

Once the job search begins and a CV is created, many school leavers haven't been provided the support to understand what a recruiter looks for. So the CV is filled with multiple behavioural traits like 'hard working' 'reliable' and 'trustworthy'. These are expected in any job and don't add any value to a CV.. There is also a pressure to 'fill the page', so the CV becomes cluttered with everything and anything the person has done during their academic and personal life.  This actually reduces your chances of an interview. 

Recruiters will look for transferrable skills, whether you have experience or not. It is about how you position your experience, how you word the CV to become relevant to the role you're applying for and covering what is asked in the job description. Your CV has to be a 30 second elevator pitch about you, the skills you have and how they can be transferred into the business you're applying for.
